Membership associations often provide an affordable, fun way to meet fellow professionals and many associations provide continuing education opportunities such as workshops and conferences.
National Associations
American Translators Association (ATA)
ATA offers resources for both translators and interpreters in the topics of careers, newcomers to the field, business practices, publications and professional development. Members receive a monthly magazine.
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
RID advocates for high standards of interpreting and transliteration services between people who use sign language and people who use spoken language. Members are supported through online resources and a monthly membership newsletter.
National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT)
NAJIT is an organization for legal interpreters and translators. Resources include a blog, mailing list and members-only quarterly newsletter.
International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA)
IMIA is committed to the advancement of professional medical interpreters as the best practice to equitable language access to health care for linguistically diverse patients.
National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC)
NCIHC is a multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to promote and enhance language access in health care across the United States. Membership includes access to a listserv.
